nd WAY too many Sidebars. Seriously dude, calm the F- down with those. They lose any real impact when you just start throwing them at people all at once! I get excited about talking about something, which reminds me of something else... which... and you see what happens. Especially if my anxiety and depression are already tag teaming to see who is going to come out on top!

Sidebar - This reminds me of the time in Season 5 when... *slams butcher knife down on hand to stop myself*  Extreme? Maybe. But "friends don't let friends be me! " (Sidebar to the sidebar: I actually had a shirt made that said that. I loved that shirt)

What is YOUR favorite shirt of all time?

and who else is out there in the wilderness and that you wish you could track down and drag into the competition? Veteran or newbie!

Completely unrelated to anything I've done from Evil Queen at Disneyland videos (the REAL one, not any of her replacements!) to Nikki videos at Universal Halloween Horror Nights. She's SO good.

Sidebar - Week 1 - The FINAL season

Season 9 was the final season of LJ Idol. I know this because I said it many times. I posted about it. I wrote an email or two and sent it to every person who was signed up for the community. I even did a couple interviews with blogs. All of them said the same thing - LJ Idol was ending Season 9!

That was 2015.  It's 2026 now. What happened?

Let's go back to 2011. I met Cynthia and fell deeply in love. I knew from the moment I read her OK Cupid profile that if I met her that I'd completely fall for her. By the time a few months later when we met in person, I was utterly convinced that "This is Important. I'm meeting my wife!!!"

I doubt pretty much everything. But this I was confident in, without anything tangible backing it up! We hadn't even been face-to-face yet, and I KNEW we were going to be married and live out the rest of our lives together.  (Well, one of those things ended up being true! The jury is out on the second one. I guess that depends how long we live!)

Especially after I moved in with her in 2013, I knew that I my life was about to get SO BUSY with REAL LIFE that I wasn't really going to have the time to do much of anything.

Besides, by Season 9 I'd be in my mid-40s, and did I really think I would have the time or even interest in keeping Idol going after that?

Season 7 ended on a high, with a long-time contestant coming back and becoming the FIRST returning player to ever win!  (She had dropped out every time she had played up until then. This time she stuck it out, won Idol, and launched a very successful writing career!)

Season 8 ended with THE greatest final match up of all time. (Closer than any season other than Season 2, which was decided by a single vote.) The top two spots were professional writers, the winner being someone I had known as a creative force since high school and *my little contest" had motivated her to jumpstart her writing again. #UltimateValidation

Season 9 made sense to end things on a high. You might think "Why not Season 10?" Idol Season 1 had 9 contestants, because I got impatient and didn't want to wait around for a 10th person to sign up!  :D

Ending one season before the 10th just made sense to me. Besides, given the severe site drop off, how much longer was Livejournal going to last anyway?

A funny thing happened on the way to that finale... we had a lot of newbies sign up!  We had a lot of veterans show up that I hadn't seen in years wanting to play that one last time!  I had so much fun I was seriously dragging my feet not wanting the experience to end.  I had SO MANY people messaging me to PLEASE not end it. They had just discovered Idol or finally found their footing in it and really wanted it to continue.

A few years before we had two "Exhibits" A&B special seasons that were a fundraiser to buy Cynthia an engagement ring.  The very name of them was that they were documentation of how much I loved her.  I'd never asked for any donation before that. (and I still don't have a "donation" or "fee" - the only other time being Literary Prize Fight, the only mini season/event that had a monetary pay out!)  There were people upset with the idea of giving anything at all for Idol, regardless of the cause, who left and to this day have not come back!

Having had a couple mini seasons, I thought "Well, maybe regular seasons are over, and we will just do these shorter mini seasons for as long as we still have the interest/momentum!"  I went back to the original timeline of LJ Idol, which had always been "I'll do this season and then who knows?"  Every mini season was a question mark.  After a few years of mini seasons, people asked for a regular season, there was enough interest, so I had a Season 10.  Followed by mini seasons and special events. That spawned a Season 11! Followed by mini seasons/special events like a "Survivor" based game using Idol as the template and concepts like the Wheel of Chaos.

Life was falling apart for some of those later seasons (job related that was causing stress in my home life and Idol was a nice place to escape) Somewhere along the way I realized that I WAS going to have a 20th anniversary "All Star" event. It morphed several times, in and out of "All Star", in and out of an actual season.  (at one point it was me inviting a couple people a week to write to a prompt, sort of a curated "Who's Who of LJ Idol" kind of thing. Which might have gotten in a few people who don't have the time to do anything longer. But ultimately where we are now!   As I was coming up with the idea though, I figured 20th would be a good place to end it. Because that's a nice number and would I really want/ be capable of doing something like this much further into my mid-50s?

Year 25 definitely isn't on the table - I'd be 60!!! WAY too old. ;) There's definitely a shot clock on how much more I have to give, even in the best physical and mental health (and I have neither of those things) Not only am I aging, but the age of people who remember and are still interested in long form social media is also aging.  Those "young and energetic" 20-somethings that signed up are in their 40s!

But I learned not to say "final" season anymore. It's back to a season-by-season/event-to-event determination based on interest and how much more I think I have in the tank.

I've long had a "deadman's switch" on Idol and a general agreement that once I'm gone, so is Idol. LJ Idol and I are intermingled on a DNA level after all. Perhaps after I'm gone someone will base something off my ideas that I've developed here in a way that is actually a tribute and not just a cheap knockoff trying to compete with me. It won't be the same though. It can't be.  If that does end up happening, and if it's possible, I'll probably STILL haunt them and curse them out of existence! ;)

So is the first Work Room of the season: therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1225025.html

Sign-ups are still happening as well. I'm hoping we will still have some people wandering in. There's still a few that said they were coming/others who were considering it and of course I lot that I never heard back from:  therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1219874.html

(
Obviously that last group is the least likely to show up. Although some of you never got back to me either but still showed up!)

           ***

There were things I noticed last night while looking for the event I mentioned in last night's Sidebar that caught my attention. I'll probably go into more detail in another Sidebar.  But as late as Season 3, I was combining Result/New Topic posts and although there were spaces to talk they weren't quite Green Rooms. The biggest thing that caught my attention though is because there were no "byes" yet, and I didn't want to eliminate people who submitted an entry, and didn't want to eliminate people who just had a tough week and weren't able to get things in - the polls were focused on which person to eliminate who *didn't get in an entry* until we got to the point of weeding them out!! Which is where the special powers started showing up - I had the polls for those who showed up but needed some sort of stakes. So,I gave them special powers to use later in the game!  Seeing the evolution from 20 years out is fun for me to mentally track how it began vs what it became.  Much like these Sidebars, where I'm still trying to figure out how often to have them and yet, even with a couple a day at times, bits like this still happen to show up in the Green Room! :)

It's a work in progress. I'M a work in progress!

    ***
Happy Cynthia's Birthday to all who celebrate it.  The Cs, and Foxy, should be coming over to my apartment tonight. I asked what she wanted for her birthday and she specifically said she wanted me to make her pizza. So I am.

That is also a work in progress.
   ***

But talking about my second ex-wife and mentioning my first last night in the Sidebar reminded me of HOW I found out she (the first) had cheated on me.  The whys and wherefores aren't really important here. But from the vantage point of having been divorced for over 20 years now, I can say we hit the point where we just wanted to live very different lives. Which honestly is a big part of the end of Marriage 2: Electric Boogaloo.

None of that is relevant other than just a little background. What I was thinking about was just how LIVEJOURNAL my divorce was. I'm kind of surprised it didn't end up on one of those drama groups. Were those a thing in LJ circa 2003? Either we got lucky or it wasn't dramatic enough.

Anyway, we shared a desktop computer. Which, of course we did and of course it was a desktop! We didn't have a lot of money. Pretty sure someone gave us their old system when they upgraded because no way we could actually afford that!

We were both on Livejournal and would just log on and then log off again when we were done.  Both of our LJs were completely public, because "who needs filters?" :D Ah, yes, the good ole days!

One day (a couple weeks after she had gotten back from the pagan festival that she had gone to solo)  I noticed a weird name on the drop-down log-in options.  I thought it was weird and asked her if she knew anything about it.  She said it was a friend of hers. Not that friend came over to use the computer, but that somehow just going to that account's posts was giving that as a log-in option. That got my Spidey senses tingling. But I still didn't look up the account right away.  It took me about another week, and some more weird stories that didn't make sense to look up the account. (Not log into the account, just look it up and see who it was!) I don't remember the name, but what I do know is that their entries were all public as well, and my wife wasn't listed as a friend. Several of her friends were. But not her. "Weird".

It was a DETAILED description of several sexual encounters at a pagan festival, how this woman was feeling about it (excited) and mentions of wanting to meet up with this guy again/talking with him on the phone/email/that sort of thing.

At that point I mentioned that I had seen that account and asked her again... and was told it was a friend she had met AT that festival and that they had been talking about what happened blah blah blah... I wanted to believe it, but nothing added up and eventually everything broke (piece by piece)  Of course it was her alt account she had set up. She wasn't even making much of an effort to hide it and was really bad at lying.

The fallout from that, and the divorce was ALL ON LIVEJOURNAL. Public posts!  It never got nasty, which might be why it didn't attract any drama sites, we didn't give them enough.  But as open as I've been about this second divorce, and I've been pretty open about talking about it and my mental state as a result, it doesn't even touch how open we both were!  Livejournal was a different place back then, a place where you COULD get personal and deep - even in public posts, because there was no way to connect it back to your "real" life. It felt safe.

The biggest problem we ended up having, even with public accounts, was actually a mutual friend who created an anonymous account to harass both of us for "not trying to save the marriage". That was actually a huge issue, and we both went through our friends lists trying to find the culprit, because the messages were pretty cruel. It turns out it was a guy we both knew (more of my friend) who had been through a situation where his wife had cheated on him, but he forgave her and they were happy and had a kid - so everyone should just forgive and move on.  Spoiler: Years later, they got divorced after he found out that she had really never stopped cheating on him or at least had only taken a short break from it. I did NOT harass him or even make reference to what he had done to us. But I did think it really hard!

   ***
What are some of the things YOU have talked about in the past on social media/particularly Livejournal or DW that you look back and go "Wow, that was REALLY vulnerable of me?" and/or you probably just got lucky that it didn't end up on some drama related site!

     ***

There were a few random things that I wanted to talk about. I'll probably go into more detail on them soon. But while they are on my mind:

I posted a correction earlier about how popfiend was ACTUALLY eliminated - the Topsy Turvy. That twist deserves it's own special entry, or at very least a bigger "Twists and how they came to be".  But it did get me thinking about how important it is to know that every single twist was created to answer a problem, real or potential, from the season before!

Every rule in place is something I went "What about that???" including what I've casually referred to as my McDonalds rule of posting links to other sites.

Obviously this came from Season 4 when those wanna be groups had people coming in on a regular basis posting links to *their* group(s).

Those were easy enough to just delete. It was the well meaning people who showed up and "wanted to share", so I needed to set up a rule. It was pretty straight forward - if you want to post a link to somewhere else, come to me first. If it's a good link, I'll actually post it myself in a Green Room. If it's something I don't want to promote (the list is pretty small) then I'll let you know why.  My example was that it was simple manners, you don't go into a Burger King and start handing out coupons for McDonalds. If you did, the management would throw you out and probably have you barred from coming back.  I wasn't - and didn't - go that far and honestly 99.9% of what people wanted to post I ended up posting in a Green Room.

But my point that it was simply bad manners stood, and continues to stand. Although we really haven't had any major issues with that sort of thing in quite some time.

     ***

Which, in a way flows into "Why are moderators the only ones who are able to post in Idol?"  This usually comes up during the "Why don't people just post their entries to the community itself?"  I've already discussed "The Loop", and trying to avoid the whole snake eating itself of it all. Communities that are self contained like that are asking for stagnation.. You need the new blood and their perspectives to keep growing, not just in numbers but in ideas.

So, the "why aren't people just posting their entries in the community itself" is an easy answer, but even more importantly, its your entry. You own it. You should be the one to house it in your space and decide who sees/doesn't see it at any point.

As far as "why everyone can't post to the community?"  IMO it's bad enough when I have multiple posts in one day. Could you imagine how fast the important stuff would get lost if everyone was making POSTS instead of comments?  It's the same principle of why you only post links to the Prompt posts. It's chaos, and not in the way that fits on a wheel!

    ***

Someone remind me the Week of the 28th to talk about why Season 9 was going to be the last season. I think it would be appropriate there. Maybe going into more in-depth on what happened in 2011 that changed Idol forever,

But I'll give you a really big hint - that's when I met Cynthia and my own life changed completely.

   ***

Which leads me into a question that was asked about entries that I remember and/or reactions that took me by surprise. (or something like that). There's bits and pieces of entries that stick with me over the years. Definitely writers in general have stayed. I have my favorites, and occasionally  I'll share who they are.  :)  (For example, one of my personal favorites of all time is alexpgp.  Not only did he have some great stories from his real life, he was also a talented fiction writer. A lot of people don't realize that he was a professional non-fiction/technical textbook writer though! Which translating into just how precise his language always was. As usual, I digress...)

I've told this story before, but I think it encompasses the "entry I remember/meant a lot to me"/"reactions that took me by surprise" and a little bit of the why it was so important to always plan out the season't prompts and twists ahead of time, before the first person ever signs up.

There have definitely been people annoyed with me for prompts that they felt hit too close, but they've always been coincidences. Even this one I'm about to talk about.

Season 3. Week 3  "My Biggest Mistake and What I Hope that I Have Learned From it"

Note: Our first full-time fiction writer, who was successful was darkprism in Season 5! As weird as that seems now.

A contestant named jeibear wrote this really moving entry about how she had broken her ex-husband's heart by cheating on him and the regret she was living with.  People rallied around her in a major way, her fellow contestants, readers in general. There was just a huge outpouring of how she shouldn't blame herself for that/needed forgive herself and move on/that it takes two people to set up a scenario to cheat.  The Idol community just really embraced and rallied around her.

What the vast majority of them didn't know at the time (I'm not even sure I mentioned it when she eventually dropped,(I just looked, I did) and I know I didn't mention it around the time of her entry) was that she was my ex-wife.  I was the ex-husband in question. It was the first time she had really put it out there and admitted that she was sorry for hurting me (3 years after the fact), and she did it in the form of an Idol entry.  (She thought that I had put it in place in the season because of her, but as I said, that was set long before she ever mentioned she might sign up and even when I posted the topic, I wasn't thinking about what she specifically might write.)

I try my hardest to remain neutral on all things. But do you have any idea how difficult it is to assemble something like Idol and then have the (at the time) biggest group that had ever been assembled, en mass come together and say "It's OK".  :)  (Even if that's not what they actually said. They were being supportive to her, which is good for a community to be like that. I got that even then. But I also had a part of me that was "WTF people!"  :D  )

The first prompt is up and honestly I'm about to break this Wheel.   therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1224892.html

On one hand, it is exactly what I would have decided to do. It makes the most sense in terms of showcasing the 20 years aspect. Go back to the very beginning, and I would have been saying that to myself right up until I reminded myself of what the very first prompt was!

In some ways though, it is freeing and allows everyone to bring whatever they want to bring without any restrictions. On the other, people come to something like this TO HAVE THOSE RESTRICTIONS.

*shrug* I guess the Wheel knows what it is doing, so I'll trust the process.

What are your plans for an Open topic, especially this early?  Is it better or worse to start off with such an blank slate?

The GOOD thing is that this does take "Open Topic" off the board for the rest of the season!  So I guess that's a relief. Or a downside, depending on how valuable you happen to think it is headed down the stretch!

  ****

Right now everyone has 2 byes to use between now and the Top 20. If we get 100 contestants or more, that will go up to 3.

***

I did decide that there will be something for the first 3 people voted out. Why? Because I don't want to lose anyone, and it's a thank you/consolation prize for coming out, that will hopeful keep those 3 involved and engaged.  What is it? You're find out when the first person is eliminated!

***

I gave a little extra time for this week because it's Week 1 and to keep sign ups open a little longer. Most weeks aren't going to have as much time!

The Week 0 poll is now closed.

Which means it's time for the Week 1 prompt!

As previously stated in today's Sidebar, all prompts will be decided via the Wheel of Chaos.  So, let's get to it!!

*flips the initial coin* Heads is new prompt. Tails is classic.

It's Tails.

OK. Which season?  *spins wheel*

1

Are you kidding me wheel? *shrugs* That's what the wheel went with.

Which prompt?  1.

I honestly think this wheel is trolling me at this point.

What was the very first prompt ever?  *swears under my breath*  It was an Open topic.

Which means you can literally write anything you want to put out there into the world.

The deadline to link back to this thread is Tuesday, September 22nd at 7pm ET.

REMINDER: Unlike Week 0, which was just for practice, this is a mandatory prompt. Either link your entry, or declare a bye, in the comments below.

REMINDER PART 2: The ONLY thing is this comment section should be entries or bye declarations. I'm posting a Work Room, comment there for any reactions.

Have fun!

The Green Room is happening over here: therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1224231.html
This is just an Idol History Sidebar

                  ***

I've set certain guidelines for myself - that Year 20 is going to be minimal twists. Not saying they won't happen. Just that it will be more old school in the approach. Also, that I would use these Sidebars to talk about something that was relevant. I'm sure that second part won't always be the case. Unless you count "stuff on Gary's mind is always relevant" which is nowhere close to the truth.

So why is something so recent getting a sidebar for "Idol History"?

I made a comment in the FAQ that the Wheel WOULD be coming back, but in a slightly different way.

Over the last couple of years, the mini seasons have been Idol Mini, which was light on the twists and The Wheel of Chaos, which I visualized as a box of Captain Crunch labeled "Oops, All Twists!!"

I knew that if I actually got to Year 20, I wanted it to be more laid back and less "OMG Gary is coming to get you!", although I'm quite sure I will be coming to get you anyway!! I wanted to practice some of that with Idol Mini.  But I didn't want to leave out those people who actually really enjoy the twists, so I gave them the Wheel!

The Wheel of Chaos is an idea that has been in my head for a while. Kind of like the Pandora's Box twist in that there could be anything in there, and the fun was opening it up but one that would keep me as engaged and wondering what would happen next as you were!

I came up with a bunch of twists, some good, some bad, some absolutely insane and put them on a spreadsheet and numbered them. Then I did the same with prompts.

I also wanted the chance for the twist to be there wasn't going to be a twist, so I essentially added a third wheel to spin to determine if that was going to happen.

Note: I did not create an actual wheel, but I did use a random number generator (1-whatever number I had in that category) that was a wheel. I say this because my original idea was to create a physical wheel and "go live" so people could see it spin and learn their fate! Given how my year went, I'm really glad I didn't go with that.

To pull all of that into bullet points:

1. First spin: What is this week's prompt?
2. Second spin: Is there a twist?
3. Third and final spin (if 2 comes up as a "Yes") what is the twist?

After a few early rounds came up as "No Twist", I removed a couple of the "No Twists" on the wheel. (I don't have it in front of me, but I believe the original ratio of Yes/No was 3/5 (favoring the No). The updated system made it 3/3 so there was an equal chance.

The twists that came up tended to favor the good or at least not completely insane. Some of my more fiendish ideas were left on the board. Although one of the earliest twists was the introduction of the HEAVILY Traitors-inspired "Killers" which caused enough chaos on its own!

I had no idea which prompt was coming. What twist was coming. There was no "master plan" on how the season was going to play out. There were even a few options on that board that would have immediately ended the season by going straight to the finale! With the right (wrong?) spin, Week 1 could have also been the final week!

After that was done, I said that the Wheel wasn't going to be coming back into a mainstream season/mini season. I said it, and I meant it.

However, as people signing up and I started to get excited about everything again, (Yay for actually being able to get excited about something! Yay for drugs! Sorry, I of course meant "prescription medication"! ;)  )  I realized that I was still torn between two very different ideas on prompts.

How I know it's time to start a new season (and how I knew I was "as ready as I was going to be" to start this one is that I actively start pulling prompts from the world around me.  I don't use "prompt websites" or lists or whatever I've seen other groups do. I pull them from my life. Someone says something interesting. I read/see something that triggers a thought, and I write it down.  It's part of why Idol is so personal, these prompts come directly from me, and always *mean something* to me.  (With the obvious exception of those times when I've solicited them for a special event. Or that one season where that was a perk of "winning the week", I didn't like that very much and I think it gave them too much influence)

The ideas were:
- Using the brand new prompts I was writing down.
- In keeping with the idea of 20 Years of history, recycling some of my favorite prompts from our history)

There were merits to both ideas and I kept going back and forth until that little girl from the Old El Paso commercials (and meme) came forth and said "Why Not Both?"

But how would that work? How many old prompts, and which ones? How many new prompts, and which ones?  If only there was a way to balance that out in a way that would... oh yeah. The Wheel of Chaos!

The first question is "New prompt or Old prompt" it's going to be a randomly generated coin flip.  (if one side gets picked too often, that method will be adjusted. But probably not for a few weeks so I can see how it plays out)

If "new prompt" then I spin for which number on my list and use that one.  Obviously once used, that comes off the board.  If "old prompt" I spin first for "which season/mini season" and then which week.  In the case of weeks where there were multiple prompts, it's another spin.  If it's a little too close to something already used, or in the case of a prompt that has made multiple appearances (We've had "Throwback Weeks" before to honor classics) I will spin again. (Unless I really, really like it. :D)

Going into tonight, I will have NO idea of what the prompt is going to be until I'm ready to post!  I'm not sure people realized this last time around, but when I said "spin the wheel" it wasn't just for dramatic effect. I was writing it out, stopping, and then spinning the wheel in real time! I will be doing the same for Year 20!

Green Room - Week 0 - Day 11

People always ask "Would you tell someone they had something in their teeth/hanging out of their nose/their zipper was down/toilet paper on their shoe" because these are potentially universal problems.

This morning I had a far more rare one.  Would you tell someone if they were driving away with a plastic bottle hanging out of their car door?

I'm not sure how they accomplished it, but the top of the plastic button was lodged in their door and the rest of it was hanging out at an angle. When they opened their car door they probably stepped out and then muttered to themselves about how people littered in the parking lot, not realizing they were the culprit. Or maybe they would hear the crunch and marvel the same way the rest of the world (that saw him) was.

I wanted to tell him - but he sped out of the parking lot as I was still trying to wrap my head around what I was seeing. By the time I realized what it was, he was gone.

What's the weirdest thing you've seen recently?

And no, a picture of me DOES NOT COUNT!!  ;)

Today is the final day of Week 0. The poll will be closing at 7pm ET. therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1222808.html   and the Week 1 prompt will be going up soon after that.  Which means we will officially know the last day you can Sign Up to take part in Year 20!  therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1219874.html

I just deleted an intro link from the Sign-Up post (reposted it under the Week 0 poll) and a duplicate tentative sign-up post (there are still two of those. So don't get *too* excited about that extra bye quite yet!) Keep spreading the word because this rocket is about to launch with or without them!

Correction to something I said in the Sidebar and a clarification.

The clarification is that the author who said that cisgendered white men shouldn't be trying to write wasn't talking TO ME. More likely than not she has zero idea that I read it and took it to heart. I don't think anyone would walk up and say that to anyone's face and that it was intended more as a generalization.

The correction is that I said I haven't written anything in years. What I *should* have said is nothing "creative". From 2015-2022(ish) I was ghostwriting 2-4 articles a year for the company where Cynthia works. At least one person here served as my editor, so she can tell you what a mess my writing actually is without a proofreader to bring it all together and make sense of it! :)   (Anyone who reads a Green Room could probably tell you that anyway!)  I was making them as creative as I could, but there's only so much fun you can get from an article about hiring people in the insurance and RV industries! But it was OK money, so at least there was some motivation to get it done. I still usually waited to the last minute to do it! So, I'm not that different from most Idol writers! :D

In my navel gazing and splitting even more hairs than usual (Which,, why is my navel that hairy that hairs can be split there??? Some things are best not explored and that seems like several of them.)  I brought up that I wanted to wrap up the history portion of this season as quickly as possible so we could get on with making some brand new history in Year 20!  Several people offered their suggestions, but newbie shadaras offered this idea:  "I'm new to idol and all but: if you want to mark out a difference, you could share history posts without calling them green rooms necessarily? Like, if the point is storytelling and reflection on history rather than providing a space for chatting about the present, would it be worth it to differentiate the two?"

I loved the idea and maybe have them every so often during the course of the season (Heavier now obviously, but maybe also when things pop up it might be a place to go into some of the backstories while keeping Green Rooms more focused on what is happening right now. *shrugs* I don't know, But i'm at least going to try this idea out for a little bit.

I've gone through a couple names, the first was just "History Lesson", which sounded kind of pompous. (for my tastes, even though I've certainly been using it.) As I was in the process of writing the above though, I mentally called it a "sidebar", which indeed it is.  So I'll go for that for now.

It's important though, not to lose focus on what is important RIGHT NOW, so I'll still make sure you give you the important links:

I did just realize that the time I set the poll closing for means that I can't go to Screen Unseen this week.  But then again, it's most likely Forgotten Island, so I'm OK with that.  :)

There were a few stories I was thinking about telling today, but I'm curious what YOU want to know about when it comes to Idol.  Favorite entry of all time - honestly that's a bit of a blur at the moment and I'd have to sit down and ponder that. There have been quite a few that I've really liked. Least Favorite is easy, the time someone posted a picture and that was their entry. I don't even recall what the picture was, but they were asking to be voted out and I seem to recall they got their wish.

Anything you want me to cover? Or just questions in general from over the last 20 years?
